Dr. Neli Cohen is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who specializes in Neuropsychology and Neurorehabilitation of neurological and psychiatric disorders of people of all ages. During her academic experiences, Dr. Cohen received training in neuropsychological assessment, cognitive rehabilitation, and neuropsychological interventions. In addition, she received a one-year training in neurodevelopmental disorders and related disabilities at University of Illinois at Chicago, as a scholarship recipient. She completed her pre-doctoral training in The Memory Clinic in Vermont where she was trained in assessment and remediation of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia. During her post-doctoral residency at the Behavioral Health Associates in Chicago, she received extensive training in neuropsychological assessment and neurorehabilitation.
Dr. Cohen works with individuals of all ages with evident or suspected impairments of cognitive, neuropsychiatric, and developmental functioning. She is an independent medical expert for the United States Social Security Administration Office for Disability Adjudication. She also performs personal injury evaluations and assessments of retired NFL Professional Football Players for Post-Concussion Syndrome (PSC) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). A major part of Dr. Cohen’s training, clinical experiences, and current practice is neurorehabilitation. Dr. Cohen provides rehabilitative cognitive and neuro therapy EEG (Loreta Z-score) Neurofeedback and cognitive rehabilitation for clients of all ages with ADD/ADHD, head injuries, Alzheimer’s and other dementias, substance abuse disorders, stroke, PPD, chronic pain, mood disorders, and other types of neurological and neuropsychiatric dysfunction. In addition, as a part of the diagnostic process, she utilizes Quantitative Electroencephalograph (QEEG), a noninvasive functional brain imaging, which informs clinicians more targeted treatment options by providing functional information on the underlying neurophysiology associated with symptoms of various disorders.As an investigator, Dr. Neli Cohen has participated in several behavioral and pharmacological neuroscience research projects in the Neuroscience Laboratory at University of Houston, as well as in behavioral and functional neuroimaging (QEEG) research on mirror neurons in relation to empathy in individuals with borderline personality disorders (BPD) at Adler University. Other research projects include ‘Cook County Jail Safety Focus Group,’ 'Social Exclusion Simulation’, examining differential prediction of personality assessment inventory (PIA), and predicting cognitive functioning in individuals with severe Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) with PIA. Her research involvement also led to several conference presentations of the research findings.
