Timothy R. Tumlin, Ph.D.
Timothy R. Tumlin, Ph.D. is a psychologist who has specialized in treating persons with a wide variety of chronic pain conditions in the Chicago area for 15 years. A graduate of the University of Florida’s Department of Clinical & Health Psychology, his clinical practice has included work with other specialties, such as oncology and bariatric surgery, and he also helps individuals experiencing psychological distress not related to medical conditions. However, his clinical practice is predominantly focused on chronic pain and related difficulties, such as insomnia, relationship disruption, anxiety and depression experienced as reaction to pain. He is a member of the American Pain Society and has been a member of the American Psychological Association for 20 years. He has evaluated thousands of chronic pain patients as part of their multidisciplinary care. His strategy in treatment is to help people become more resilient in the face of chronic challenges such as long-term pain. His interventions include education about the many cognitive, behavioral, emotional and social processes that influence patients’ pain, so that they may have more control over it.
